Care for Children TRAINING Course (6HR)
The EFR Emergency Care for Children Course is a paediatric first aid training program designed for nannies, parents, grandparents, and Early Years professionals working alongside staff who hold a Full Paediatric First Aid Certificate.
This course meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and NVQ and provides essential first aid skills to care for children and infants in emergency situations. Participants will gain hands-on experience and develop confidence in responding to medical emergencies involving children.
What is the EFR Care for Children Course?
Children and infants are more vulnerable to injuries and illnesses, and their bodies respond differently to medical emergencies. This course teaches specific paediatric first aid protocols, ensuring participants can effectively assess and manage emergencies involving young children.
What will you learn
By the end of this one-day training, participants will be able to:
Recognize medical emergencies in children and infants.
Administer immediate first aid in critical situations.
Use child-specific first aid techniques with specialized training aids.
Remain calm and focused when providing emergency care.
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Care for Children attendance certificate valid for 2 years.
Primary Care (Life-Threatening)
Introduction to First Aid: Understanding first responder responsibilities.
Scene Safety Assessment: Evaluating hazards and ensuring a safe environment.
Precautions: Communicable disease protection and barrier use.
Obstructed Airway Management: Handling choking in children/infants.
Rescue Breathing & CPR: Performing effective paediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Use: Understanding how to use an AED on children.
Serious Bleeding & Wound Care: Managing severe cuts, scrapes, and bruises.
Shock & Spinal Injury Management: Treating potential head, neck, and spine injuries.
Secondary Care (Non-Life-Threatening)
Injury Assessment: Evaluating and treating common childhood injuries.
Bandaging Techniques: Properly applying dressings and bandages.
Illness Assessment: Identifying symptoms of common childhood illnesses.
This course combines theory with practical hands-on training, ensuring participants develop real-world first aid skills.
